GROUP OF WREXHAM FANS WIN £200 PUB QUIZ PRIZE

The future’s looking bright for Wrexham Football Club. They are currently riding high on top of the Blue Square Premier - and now their dedicated fundraising group has added £200 to the money pot after winning a special S4C pub quiz.

The Yma o Hyd (We Are Still Here) Fundraising Group was set up back in October to help the club financially. With the Wrexham Supporters’ Trust now running the club, the group of dedicated young fans decided to support the new owners by raising income to buy new players.

Member Rob Clarke was joined on the winning pub quiz team by Dave Davies, Matt Thomas and Charlotte Richards during the S4C organised event.

The pub quiz at the Railway Club in Wrexham was part of S4C’s Calon Cenedl (Heart of the Nation) community campaign in the area. Cast members from drama series Rownd a Rownd were also on hand to help the teams throughout the evening. Llŷr Evans, star of Twin Town and brother of Hollywood star Rhys Ifans, helped Yma o Hyd to victory.

Other activities which took place during the fortnight included a flower-arranging demonstration, a show for pre-school children at the Stiwt Theatre and S4C’s Viewers’ Evening.

Proceeds from the raffle at the pub quiz went to Wrexham’s Saith Seren project. Saith Seren, the permanent legacy of the 2011 National Eisteddfod, is a community project set up to refurnish an old Victorian pub in the town centre into a new bar, restaurant and Welsh language community centre.

The new centre is scheduled to open in January ahead of the 2012 Six Nations Championship.
