The event, on Monday 2 July 2012, will bring choirs and dance groups from around the Commonwealth together to perform at this prestigious venue. They will then proceed to the North Wales town to compete at the 66th world-renowned Eisteddfod (2 – 8 July).

As part of the Commonwealth Year of Culture and in their 100th anniversary year, the CPA (Commonwealth Parliamentary Association) has commissioned Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod to stage a performance to celebrate the Monarch’s Diamond Jubilee.

Eisteddfod President Terry Waite CBE says: “The idea for the celebration has been submitted to the Parliamentary Authorities by one of our Vice Presidents, Lord Roberts of Llandudno, and this has been approved in the past few days. Our thanks go to him and his team of workers who have been promoting the aims and values of this wonderful Eisteddfod.”

Lord Roberts of Llandudno is an Honorary Vice President of the Eisteddfod.

The announcement comes at the end of another successful week at the annual International Eisteddfod.
