A record number of viewers have tuned in to live coverage of the 2011 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on the internet. Now in its fifth year, Llangollen.tv has proved as popular as ever as people from 60 countries across the globe have been watching the competitions online.
Supporters from the USA, England, Croatia and the Philippines were among the countries attracted to watch online. Daily website hits also reached over 30,000 as visitors were kept updated of the competitions’ results during the week.
The ratings news comes at the end of another highly successful International Eisteddfod with participants from over 40 countries visiting the North Wales town. Thousands also flocked to the Eisteddfod’s evening concerts, which included performances by Russell Watson, Lulu, Ruthie Henshall, Kiki Dee, Rick Astley and Faryl Smith.

Video clips and photo galleries of the week’s performances, competition results and messages of support can be found on the Llangollen.tv website. More messages have been left on the website and social network sites including Facebook and Twitter than ever before.
Each performance – including individual competitions – is available to watch for thirty days after the Eisteddfod.
Broadcast partners Rondo Media – which has offices in Cardiff, Caernarfon and Menai Bridge – supply the live streaming for Llangollen.tv and also produce daily programmes for Welsh language Channel S4C and BBC Wales.
Llangollen’s outgoing Chief Executive, Mervyn Cousins, adds: “This Eisteddfod is truly an international event and we’re pleased that so many people can benefit from Llangollen.tv despite not being able to visit us in person during the week. The website is also a shop window of our unique and cultural event which we hope entices people to visit us in future.”

Rock band McFly will officially close the 2011 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on Sunday.
