Llangollen falls silent in moving Sound of Silence message at Eisteddfod
First Minister Carwyn Jones and Terry Waite CBE were among the hundreds of visitors to take part in the annual Sound of Silence at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on Thursday 7 July.

The First Minister joined the peace message, led by the festival’s President Terry Waite, as the Llangollen crowd linked arms in a circle around the pavilion. Outgoing Chief Executive Mervyn Cousins, Chairman Phil Davies, members of the S4C and BBC broadcast teams including Sara Edwards, Nia Roberts and Mari Grug were also present at the symbolic peace message.
Completing the line up was honorary Day President Frank Hennessy – who will also broadcast two live programmes for BBC Radio Wales during the week – as he started his duties in the role, including addressing the audience from the pavilion stage.
Competitions on the pavilion came to a stand-still as did musical performances around the Eisteddfod field as Llangollen fell silent for a few minutes.
