In the ring he was feared for his devastating punching power – a seismic left hook that made him one of Wales’ most decorated boxers and WBU World Middleweight Champion.

Outside of it, Gary ‘The Rocket’ Lockett is fast becoming one of the sports most respected and sought after commentators and columnists working for BBC Sport among others.

Like his former stable mate Joe Calzaghe, Gary earned his stripes dominating the amateur division with a succession of national and international titles as well as becoming Wales’ first European champion for 70 years in 1992.

He laced his gloves up for his first pro-fight in 1996 making light work of his opponents and earning a reputation as the new hope of British middleweight boxing.  

Trained by the legendary Enzo Calzaghe, Gary became the WBO Inter-Continental Light-Middleweight Champion in 2002 before landing a shot at the WBU World Middleweight title in 2006 where he demolished Gilbert Eastman in style with a merciless first round knockout. He defended the title twice – including a stylish points win over current British light-middleweight champion Ryan Rhodes.  Early in 2008 Gary was elevated to number one challenger for Kelly Pavlik’s WBC and WBO World Middleweight belts.

In June 2008, Gary fought bravely against the American, but missed out on becoming the undisputed world middleweight champion. Since that fight his TV and media career has flourished, becoming a columnist with BBC Online and a regular pundit and commentator with BBC Sport and also working with Radio 5 Live and Setanta Sports.

Gary also owns an extensive property portfolio and lifestyle management consultancy which specialises in health, fitness, sport nutrition and motivational speaking.

In addition to his media and business commitments, Gary works tirelessly for charity and is an Ambassador for the Kidney Wales Foundation.
